My Political Views Regarding Issues in Our Society

These views are not to offend anyone. They are merely my opinion and what I would run on if I were running for a political office. You may disagree with these opinions and that is ok because in our country, debating about our opinions is one of many aspects of our society that makes our nation great.

1.) Foreign Policy

- I am against the belief by our government that we need to do nation building. Our government also has decided that we need to run the world and create governments that do our bidding. This is to create a world full of puppet states that serve America while their country goes down the toilet. Many of the wars America fights are not for the traditional values that we have fought for in the past. We need to avoid policing the world, entangling alliances and massive military involvement in the business of other nations. Only when a nation threatens the security and sovereignty of our nation should we act in force. The attack on September 11, 2001 was in response to the actions of our nation’s foreign policy over the past 40 years. If we stop destroying the lives of different civilizations then perhaps we can live in peace with the rest of the world.

2.) Debt

- Our nation has spend billions on military spending. We spend at least 4-5 times that of the next highest spending nation, China, on our military and more than the whole world combined. This sort of spending began during World War II and never really stopped due to the rise of the Cold War. Well, the Cold War is over. It ended over 20 years ago. This spending needs to stop. The reason we keep it going is because of our massive number of bases all over the world that our government feels we need to maintain in order to keep our control and exert our demands in the world economy. We can respond to any fracture in our government’s interest worldwide in a heartbeat. By reducing our spending by even just half can keep our nation ahead technologically and give our nation some extra money to put toward the debt and improving our society.

3.) Infrastructure

- Our nation’s roads, highways, rails, and grids are crumbling and we do not have the money to spend on them. Much of our infrastructure has not been replaced since the 1950’s-60’s during our post war economic boom when Eisenhower began improvements or even the 1930’s-40’s when Roosevelt put men to work building roads and such during the depression. These roads need to be replaced and or repaired. Even our electric grid is old (since early 1900’s) and overloaded. Our grid for the whole nation runs in 3 sections. One section is for the Eastern US another for the Western, and one for Texas. If one section was to go down due to overload or cyber attack, potentially, half the nation would be without power for days or longer. Every year we just add more to the grid. Many nations in Europe have build a new system of lines for internet as well. This is something we have barely begun to do. We rely on older lines to run our internet and our phones on. A good infrastructure is the backbone to a strong economy and if we want to stay in the game then we need to reduce military spending in order to fix our infrastructure.

4.) Abortion

- This subject is a touchy one but I am against abortion in most circumstances. I would like to say that in this subject I have a definite opinion but, I do not. I am tossed. I believe that it is wrong to destroy a baby no matter what stage of development it is in (zygote, fetus) and no matter what the situation is regarding its "creation" however, I do not like the idea of children born into a situation that could result in an exceedingly painful (physically or emotional) life for them or the mother but as to the further details of the situations, I can not sort out.

5.) Gay Marriage

- I am against gay marriage. I do not believe that two people of the same sex should be married and it is not discriminatory to think so. I also disagree when gays compare this “struggle” with the black struggle of the civil rights era because it is by NO WAY that same thing. That’s like comparing apples and oranges. I believe that gays are discriminated against in certain situations and that is wrong but marriage is not one of those circumstances. A marriage between a man and a woman is what our bodies were designed for and what our society should be designed for as well.

6.) Government

- I believe our government needs some changes. We need to put term limits on congress so that members cannot control seats for long periods of time and be tempted with possible lobbyist corruption. There also needs to be a smaller government. States need to deal with things like education and health care. There should also be less regulation on corporations. With less regulation come more manufacturing jobs (which our nation needs).

Fear runs this nation. Fear has facilitated the corruption of our government in all branches. The use of the idea of terrorism and all associated words of fear, create a sort of hysteria that has not been seen since the Cold War. This fear is aggravated with the use of propaganda and the media to create policies that destroy the very fabric of our society. Our values and our natural rights bestowed upon us by the founders such as life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness are being infringed upon with acts such as the Patriot Act, the National Defense Authorization Act or SOPA. This needs to stop.

7.) Corporations

-I believe corporations should be deregulated however; corporations need to be kept far away from government. Right now, lobbyist hired by corporation’s influence much of our governmental possesses. This creates a government that stops being about the people and begins being about the profit. Much of these businesses are corporations that have military contracts with the government or have an objection to a bill that will be good for society but bad for business.

What are your views?

I agree with you across the board on what you have written. The gay marriage issue will never be settled until we have become a society that is bubbling in the ooze of Sodom and Gommorah, if we aren't already.

I'm a little iffy on the abortion thing myself. Touchy subject. I think it is okay of the fetus was conceived through an act of violence or other unfortunate circumstances.

We should definitley quit playing "World Police" and tend to our own issues and social dysfunction that exist within the borders and shores of our own country.

This was a very well written article with some good thought behind it. Good Job!

You see when you say I dont want to offend anyone and then go on to to say Gay's shouldnt have the same rights as straight people then you are being quite short sighted and bigoted. Otherwise I am actually with you on everything else its a shame that your refusal to grant other's equal rights poisons the whole hub.

I agree with almost all your statements except the 'gay marriage' one. I find that in any society, you should be allowed equal rights always; in terms of love, freedom and work. One shouldn't be divided just because of who (s)he is.

To Josak: first off, "gay" should not be capitalized unless you are beginning a sentence. I think what Timothius is trying to say is that gay marrieage is not morally, or more importantly, Biblically right. Leviticus 18 says (NKJV): "22 You shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an abomination. 23 Nor shall you mate with any animal, to defile yourself with it. Nor shall any woman stand before an animal to mate with it. It is perversion".

I Corinthians (New Testament) backs this up with: "9 Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, 10 nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God".

A legal marriege under the eyes of God is to be strictly between an man and a woman. This country and it's laws were founded on the common laws of England which were based on the teachings of the Bible.

If a gay couple wishes to be joined in a "civil union", then so be it. It is not a blashphemy before God to have have two close friends pledge their loyalty for each other.

Perhaps you should read my blog about gays in the military entitled "Get 'em Girls".

You certainly have a mixed bag of views! I'd say I agree with about half the points you make.

Here are some points I AGREE with:

• "Our government also has decided that we need to run the world and create governments that do our bidding. This is to create a world full of puppet states that serve America while their country goes down the toilet." Except that it hasn't been MY government doing this — it's been the government of the 0.1%, especially a bunch of mega-billionaires and corporate gorillas.

• "Our nation has spend billions on military spending. We spend at least 4-5 times that of the next highest spending nation, ... This spending needs to stop." I don't accept all your rationale (and, again, it's not MY nation, but it belongs to a bunch of wealthy interests), but I do oppose Washington's military adventures and the massive spending to underwrite all this destruction, death, and power-grabbing.

• "A good infrastructure is the backbone to a strong economy and if we want to stay in the game then we need to reduce military spending in order to fix our infrastructure." I agree with the premise that our society should be investing in beneficial programs and needs such as infrastructure, instead of the staggering waste of endless military operations (armed conflicts and otherwise). But, in my view, America's wealthy elite NEED this military presence to grab and hold resources and beat out their wealthy competitors in other major "free market" countries, like Germany, France, the UK, and Japan (and Russia's getting into the game, too). Ending military spending won't happen without a revolution.

• "Fear runs this nation. Fear has facilitated the corruption of our government in all branches. The use of the idea of terrorism and all associated words of fear, create a sort of hysteria that has not been seen since the Cold War. This fear is aggravated with the use of propaganda and the media to create policies that destroy the very fabric of our society." I strongly agree that the manipulation of public fear has become an outstanding feature of of political life.

The points I strongly DISAGREE with are your statements on abortion and gay marriage. OK, so you have those views ... but I don't think that Ultra-Big Government should reach into people's private lives and decisions, into their bedrooms, into a woman's uterus, and mandate what they should do in their own private relations and with their own bodies. Yet that is what's been happening, certainly over the past several decades, and that's what all the major GOP candidates embrace and propose to do. And the Democrats (despite the backing of mainstream women's rights groups in their "constituency") have been complicit in this too — for example, they effectively banned insurance coverage of abortion in the Affordable Care Act (so-called "Obamacare"), and recently Obama overruled his own FDA and mandated that the "Morning-After" contraceptive had to remain a prescription medication, so that young women 17 and under couldn't have easy access to it. ON the whole, Obama and Democratic Party liberals have mostly put on overdrive their campaign to suck up to the far-right anti-abortion movement on these issues.

@ Badegg all that needed to be said was said when you stated that somethign being biblically wrong is more important than it being morally wrong, anyone who believes that what a 500 year old book says is more important than doing what is moral should go kill dwarves and stone people to death for working on Sundays like it says you should. Furthermore you gave no indication as to why it was morally wrong.

Gay people are not being joined as friends they are being joined as people who love each other just as much as I love my (female) fiance and all people deserve equal rights.

Finally I am sorry I capitalised gay it was a typo.

I don't see the difference between "Biblically wrong" and "morally wrong". Following the teachings of the Bible

will never lead a person into moral terpitude.

After reading all the comments on this hub, I've decided to put my 2 cents in too. You covered some very interesting subjects here. I disagree with you on the "cold war" statement that it is over. By no means believe it is over. It has gone covert. Russia and China are a very serious threat to us. With all their historic differences they are coming together in a pact as we speak. Both still have desires for expansion and the only reason why they haven't is us. As far as 9/11, our foreign policy didn't cause that, unless you count the fact that we are an ally of Israel. That is why we were attacked. Now, for abortion... Science has proven that life begins at conception. An embryo has feelings and all the DNA and chromsomes that make up a human. Therefore it is murder to abort. To abort is also to deprive a baby their Constitutional right to "life, liberty, and the persuit of happiness". And as far as Gay marriage is concerned. We were created man and woman for the purpose of pro-creation. A man and a man cannot procreate. A woman and a woman cannot procreate. Therefore a marriage between the two is unproductive and unnatural. If two of the same gender wish to live together that's their business. But to honor marriage of the same? Rediculous.

The Cold War is over. Plain and simple. The USSR no long exists, they no longer control eastern Europe, there is no longer an arms build up, there is no longer extreme tensions, there is no longer communism in Russia. Even China is not a full communist country. There is no longer this tension derived from the differences between communist and capitalist ideology... i just don't see it. However, that said, i can agree that there is some economic tensions between the US and China that could eventually turn into military tensions and start a cold war. Whether we will be under the same level of threat is debatable. In response to your covert theory, we have covert operations all over the world all the time. That doesnt mean that we are in a cold war. It just means we want to know what the other people are doing and we want to secure our interests.

As far as the 9/11 thing, it is true that we caused the attacks, just nobody wants to except it. We intervene in other nations business in order to protect our interest. During the Soviet war with Afghanistan, the mujhadeen and other groups were used by the US in order to fight the Soviets. After the war ended, we stopped giving them aid that they began to rely on for their lives and for reconstruction. We used them and left them to rot. Osama Bin Laden was one of this men fighting for the US but turned against us after the war. The hatred from Iran can be traced back to the 1950's when we were covertly working with the UK to overthrow their leader in order to secure their oil. Iraq's hatred began when the US backed Iraq in the Iran-Iraq War because we hated Iran and then accused them of wrong doing afterward. Also, like you said, we are allied with Israel. In fact, we helped create Israel in 1947 by taking the area away from Muslim Arabs. The fact that we are allied with Israel and grip this interventionist ideology is a big factor. Practically the whole middle east sees us as the enemy because we can't mind our own business. We sowed the seeds for an attack many many years ago... the 9/11 attacks were just the seeds budding.

I agree with Indigital! And I think that the match point goes to.....Timothius!

Timothius, you are going to be in for a big surprise if you think the cold war was just about communism. It was solely a power struggle between us the Russians, and the Chinese. This power struggle still has not ended. Russia ran out of money which ground them to a halt. They are getting back on their feet now and again are starting to flex their muscles. Watch what happens. If we get lax and disarm as the Russians would like, we will find ourselves in a very precarious position. As far as Israel is concerned. They were given back their own land by the United Nations which was taken from them 2000+ years ago. There is documentation that is 3000 years old that verifies that this was their territory. In fact they technically own all of the Gaza strip and West Bank. The Palestinians have no historical right to this land at all. Palistinian is not even a nationality. These people were nomads from Jordan and other arab states. These people were not welcome in those states and had to stay in this territory. There has always been a Jewish presence there. The name Palestine was given to this territory by the Turkish conquers, the Roman conquers and lastly by the British occupiers. Jeruselem is a Jewish city of 3000 years old. All this is documented fact. Finally, you leave out that we were helping a country fight off a invading Soviet Army in Afghanistan. We left Afghanistan after the Russians were defeated because the mujhadeen under Bin Laudin did not want any infidel left in their country. Typical appreciation by the Muslims. Just like they and Iraqis are today. In fact, any non Muslim nation is an enemy to all Muslims. It is their duty by order of the Quran to convert us or we are to be killed.

Did you not read the part where is said...

"The USSR no long exists, they no longer control eastern Europe, there is no longer an arms build up, there is no longer extreme tensions, there is no longer communism in Russia. Even China is not a full communist country. There is no longer this tension derived from the differences between communist and capitalist ideology..." I think that is the long way of saying a lot of things including "power struggle"...Let me school you a little bit... You stated the the Cold war was solely a power struggle between the United States, USSR and the Chinese and not about communism. Well, that is incorrect. The struggle was because of the differences between communism and capitalism. It was the fear that the USSR would influence the small nations of the world that were beginning to decolonize and it was hate for the other sides economic system. It was a struggle of containment of communism. It was a battle of influence over the world.

It was Harry Truman that started the policy of containment after WWII because of the fear of the spread of communism. We stayed with the containment ideology (openly) until the 1970's when Nixon became president and he found it no longer in American's best interest to fight wars of containment or assist nations in fighting communism. Secretly we still continued some containment policy though the 1980's but on a smaller scale.

Sad to say dude that this struggle is gone. The Russians today do have high ambitions but they can never rise to prominence in the even close future because 1.) there population is decreasing at an enormous rate. Faster than it can be replaced. 2.) China wants control of the eastern portion of their country 3.) They are more or less a mob state 4.) China would love to go to war with them 5.) their economy is crappy and unpredictable at times 6.) They don't have adequate infrastructure to the resource rich east.... I would hardly call that, "back on their feet".

What would happen if we lax in our military? Well, what happened during the first 120-130 years of our existence when we had one of the worlds smallest military? It wasn't until WWI that we decided to have a large military then when that war was done, we went back down. Then, WWII came along and having a huge military became the norm. When the cold war was going on, the threat of war was always there so we stayed with our large armed forces and created hundreds of bases in territories that we gained influence over during WWII. Today, we have around 900 or so bases all over the world to exert our interests. If we take most of those bases away, we are still the superpower of the world. We can still send troops to any point on the globe faster than any nation in the world can. I'm not talking about complete disarmament as you are implying but, reduction of our bases around the world. We don't need to play cops. We need to worry more about protecting our territory and good relations with other nations.

Now Israel... Israel used to be a Roman colony and around the year 70, the Romans made it illegal for Jews to practice their religion thus began the Jewish diaspora where thousands of Jews left their homeland and moved to different places in the world. This left open Israel and Arabs moved in and created their own way of living. Over 2,000 years later the Arabs are ripped up and told, this is the Jews place now. That is like Americans being told that we can't have our country now because it belongs to the Indians.

And finally, Afghanistan... You are wrong to believe that Bin Laden wanted us out. He needed us. We were giving him millions of dollars in aid to fight the Russians. He was angry because we helped them defeat the Russians and then left them to clean up. Because of our involvement in that war, the Afghan people were in a bitter civil war for what ever resources were left and for power over the country. Warlords and terrorist rose out of the shadows of that war. Terrorist and warlords that we trained ourselves. They had reason to be angry because we left them with a destroyed nation with no help rebuilding or disarming the threats. We left them to fight each other for our scraps and their survival.
